2024-25 Deer

Deer Archery: Sept. 7-9 (one buck only); Sept. 28-Feb. 28.
Deer Alternative Firearms: Oct. 19-23.
Deer Modern Gun Special Youth Hunt: Nov. 2-3.

WMA Deer Bag Limit: Four deer, no more than two bucks, which may include:

  • Two bucks with archery,
  • Four does with archery,
  • One buck and one doe with alternative firearms.
  • During youth hunt, youths may take two deer, one buck (no antler restrictions) and one doe.

Deer Notes:

  • Three-point rule.
  • No dogs.

2024-25 Rabbit

Sept. 1, 2024-Feb. 28, 2025. Daily limit – 8, possession limit – 16.

2024-25 Squirrel

May 15, 2024-Feb. 28, 2025. Dogs allowed. Daily limit – 12, possession limit – 48.

2024-25 Quail

Dec. 14-15 and Jan. 11-12. Daily limit – 4, possession limit – 8.

Quail Notes:

  • A “group” not to exceed 4 hunters, no more than 2 of which can be 16 years of age or older. Dogs allowed. Persons in the group actively taking game count to the group number. Dog handlers not harvesting game will not count toward the group numbers. Bag Limit of 4 per person, possession limit 8. Please be aware that prescribed fire may be used to meet habitat objectives. AGFC will not conduct a prescribed burn during the permit hunt, however implementation could occur immediately before the permit hunt.

2025 Turkey

Youth Hunt: April 12-13. One legal turkey.
Firearms Hunt: April 21-May 11. One legal turkey.

About the Name

Little Bayou WMA is named for the small bayou running through the area known as Little Bayou.

Area Notes

  • A free annual General Use Permit (WMP) is required to hunt or trap on WMAs. Permits are available online by clicking “Buy Licenses” at agfc.com or by calling 833-345-0325 or any regional office.

Camping

Camping is allowed on Little Bayou WMA. There is one campsite on Ashley County Road 104 with pads for RVs, but there are no hookups for electricity or water.

Description

Formerly an agricultural area in the early 90s, Little Bayou WMA was replanted in timber in 1991 with hardwood seedlings and acorns. The area is now predominately forested with bottomland and upland hardwoods and short-leaf pines.

Hunting Opportunities

This area offers many types of game to hunt. Deer, turkeys, and small game such as rabbit, squirrels and dove can be hunted. The area is known for excellent rabbit hunting.

Management Practices

Wildlife habitat on this area is managed through timber management and prescribed fires. Native warm season grasses were planted through a grant awarded to the area. This WMA also has one of the few access ramps to Bayou Bartholomew.

Recreation Other Than Hunting

Bird watching, floating the bayou and fishing are fun ways to use the WMA other than for hunting purposes.

Restaurants and Other Facilities

Hamburg is the closest city with restaurants and hotels. T&T Hog Hut and Sawyers steakhouse are good restaurants try while in the area.

Safety

Little Bayou does experience seasonal high waters, flooding is a possibility.
