Scott Henderson Gulf Mountain WMA covers nearly 14,000 acres and is managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Upland shortleaf pine and oak dominate the forests. The south fork of the Little Red River runs through the area. A small, yet interesting part of this WMA is a post oak savanna. Take a walk or drive around this area and learn more about savannas and how fire is vital to their existence. The tour varies by season – plants are dormant in winter and wildflowers bloom in spring. A winter visitor may find burned areas, but healthy growth will begin each spring.

There are 5.4 miles of streams on the property available via a low-water crossing. Anglers may pursue smallmouth bass and other Ozark stream species. Check the Arkansas Fishing Guidebook for details.

Only permit holders are allowed on this WMA during deer and turkey hunts. Small game such as quail and squirrels also are draws to Gulf Mountain WMA. Check the Arkansas Hunting Guidebook for details and wear hunter orange when appropriate.

Gulf Mountain has six primitive camping areas with 118 camping units.
