LITTLE ROCK —  The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and Arkansas Fly Fishers will host a special fly-fishing event from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center in the River Market District of Downtown Little Rock. Anyone interested in fly-fishing, fly-tying or simply enjoying the beauty of a stream flowing through the mountains in fall is encouraged to attend.

Expert members of the fly fishing club will be on hand to offer instruction in fly-casting, fly-tying and advice on how to get started in the pursuit of fish on Arkansas’s water. Special panel discussions on introducing new people into the sport also will be held by fly-fishing experts, such as Patty Lueken, who heads up the Fly Fisher’s International Women’s outreach program. Little Red River Guide Kim Rowlin Dollins and Rebecca Baker, a social media host, also will offer up panel discussion on subjects such as bringing women and kids into fly-fishing.

Many other organizations also will be represented at the fair to learn more about how fly-fishing has a much greater impact on people’s lives than a simple trip to a stream. The Mayfly Project, which works to enrich foster children’s lives through fishing, will be available at the event. Casting For Recovery, a non-profit dedicated to helping people who are battling breast cancer, also will be represented, as will Project Healing Waters, which specializes in veteran’s outreach through fly-fishing). Friends of the Little Red River and Trout Unlimited also will participate in the free event
