Lake Maumelle cleanup Feb. 24
ON 02-21-2024
LITTLE ROCK — Central Arkansas Water will host the 16th Annual Lake Maumelle Lake Sweep from 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 24 at Westrock Landing Marina. Volunteers wishing to make a difference in Central Arkansas’s drinking water reservoir are encouraged to join the cleanup
According to Raven Lawson, watershed protection manager at CAW, the focus for the cleanup will be on the shoreline. Boats are welcome but not necessary to be involved in the activities.
“We will take care of any launch fees for those who bring a boat,” Lawson said. “We’ll also provide lunch and have door prizes at the marina shortly after noon at Westrock Landing.”
Anyone interested in participating in the cleanup should meet at the marina at 9 a.m. to register and receive their cleanup assignment.
Lake Maumelle serves as the majority drinking water supply to nearly a half-million central Arkansans and is a focal point of the Maumelle River Wildlife Management Area. The annual shoreline cleanup helps protect the reservoir and surrounding lands from trash and debris that accumulate in parks and along the water’s edge.
